Fit for Life: DON’T GIVE UP ON YOURSELF!!!
Have you ever looked at the scale and wondered why the numbers aren’t going down or why the numbers seem to be rising??? If you have, then chances are you probably felt so discouraged that you just wanted to give up-WELL DON”T!!!!
There could be many reasons why the scale isn’t reflecting your efforts, i.e. medical problems, nutrition, your workouts and the most common of all…..stress! Whatever the issue is does not warrant you giving up on yourself. You are worth the fight! As a trainer I have met, talked to and trained many people who have wanted to give up because they did not see instant results. It’s simple, you didn’t gain the weight overnight and you’re not going to lose it overnight. Whatever happened to the belief of “slow and steady wins the race?” Sadly, I guess it’s just another cliché. We live in a microwave society where we expect things to happen overnight and when we don’t get the results we want, we sometimes give up. Before I became educated and grew into a life of patience I was the same way.
Effective, healthy weight loss isn’t only due to the simplistic calories in, calories out paradigm. Nor is it solely reliant on diet and exercise. It’s everything, from your environment, a medical issue, your willpower etc… There is no one solution I can give because every person and there situation is unique. The main thing is to stay focused and believe that you are worth living a healthy lifestyle. Below are a few suggestions you may want to try if you’ve reached a plateau.
1. Check your nutrition: Make sure you’re getting the right amount of carbs, protein, fiber and fats for your body type and your exercise regimen.
2. Change your exercise routine: You may need to change your workout and cardio routine. The body adapts very quickly so you must switch things up a bit to confuse it.
3. Go to the doctor: Sometimes we’re suffering from something medically and not know it, for example thyroid problems. A thyroid gland that is not active enough is called hypothyroidism which means your body uses energy much slower, which can lead to weight gain.
4. Hire someone: You may want to hire a personal trainer or a nutritionist to help assist with your fitness goals.
5. Try to reduce your stress level and get proper sleep: Cortisol is a steroid hormone produced by the adrenal gland which causes our bodies to store fat. It is released in response to stress and at times chronic sleep deprivation.
Whatever the case may be stay focused on your goals and remember living a healthy lifestyle never ends. I promise that if you stay consistent you will see major changes-even on the scale. YOU are worth the fight!!
