Poet Colette Paul

Why do we create Art? The answer is different for everyone.  The one thing that is common among most.   The desire comes from some place deep down inside us.  Weather we are creating on a professional level or on a personal level we have a need to express ourselves.  No matter the form visual art, dance, drama, poetry, or writing.  Making art can be for fun and adventure; building bridges between ourselves and the rest of humanity; reuniting and recording fragments of thought, feeling, and memory; and saying things that they can’t express in any other way, creating art is away to let our souls speak! Each month we will be featuring a visual artist and a poet.  They will be from all walks of life and all ages and from many parts of the world.  We ask that you view and read their work and try to feel them.  Post your positive comments nourish their spirit they will check back to read what you say and others.

Colette Paul began writing poetry after a breakup from her college boyfriend. She was a Fashion Merchandise major at Clark Atlanta University in Atlanta, GA and graduated in 1991.  10 years later, she found the notebook of old poems written about him and other subjects dear to her heart.  Colette realized she suppressed her creativity and began to study the art form and shortly after revised her work.

Also, in 2003, during a Charis Bookstore Women’s Writers Group performance themed “Womanchild”, she performed a monologue called “Beauty Salon.”

A scholarship was given to Ms. Paul by author, Tina McElroy Ansa’s Sea Island Writer’s Retreat On The Road at the prestigious Spellman College in 2006. Ms. Paul has taken several writing courses in the city including a children’s writing course at Evening at Emory program in 2007. In 2008, she enrolled in a children writing workshop with her literary mentor, author, Evelyn Coleman.  She is currently enrolled at the Institute of Children’s Literature online course.

Ms. Paul is a member of the Georgia Poetry Society (GPS) where her poem, “Who Could You Be?” appeared in GPS, 2005 Reach of Song Anthology. The following year “Music is the Life“was published in GPS, 2006-2007, Reach of Song Anthology.

How I give love

 By Colette Paul

I give love freely like the ocean flowing continuously

I give love like ancient men thirsting for knowledge.

My love echoes thought centuries

My love is timeless

No concept of space or time

Traveling though generations just to adore you.

My only reason is to cherish you indefinitely

My love rises above war, hatred and fear

Healing wounds and incurable diseases

My love is pure and strong

My love is five heartbeats pulsating stronger

Giving you every ounce of me

Loving you deeply and hard without thought, reason, or cause.

Elevations and Vibrations

 by Colette Paul

Earth and air has come upon me sweeping me deeply into her element

I have become a part of her universe

Being connected on the next verse of a love affair

Entangled by her locks, we are one with nature

Stirring universal juices with sugarcane kisses

She gives me energy to rise above life

Inflamed with desire; she blows a calming breeze

As ocean waves and seagull sounds purify me.

Fire, earth, and air balance me as she covers me with her shield

Her web captures and draws me deeper into her exotic world

Giving me cool spiritual waters to drink

My third eyes has opened from her pool of rest

I reach out for her hand; she escorts me to my journey rearranging me

Feeling peace and love, I am now free.

Music is the life

 by Colette Paul

Music captures me from birth

While lullabies rock me to sleep

To pianos, strings and childhood dreams.

Music and I rise above the clouds

As I watch colors swirl like cotton candy

Bizarre orange and blue as Jazz sounds blast

Melting away deadlines and traffic jams.

Music is the life force reviving me

Taking me back to spiritually.
